HISTORY
Worldreviews.com was founded in 1999 in the early years of the commercial internet in Britain.
Its visual layout has been retained since then as an historical curio. It has, for instance, buttons for hyperlinks to the left of page. It has space at the top of the page for the standard size banners that were commonly used in 1999.
Its tenth anniversary is approaching.
The internet had been a reality for the public since 1994 and started to show exponential commercial growth in America in 1998. Commercial uses really started up in Britain in 1999 and in continental Europe in 2000.
Sites founded in 1999 form an interesting study. Some like gosurprise.com, with good ideas, raised a chunk of venture capital but did not endure. Others, essentially amateur, but with compelling content, like kenrockwell.com, have gone from strength to strength over the decade.
Worldreviews never sought to be fully commercial or amateur but it has survived. It simply billed itself as a site to record what was going on in the world from the new millennium through self-submitted freelance journalism.
Submissions can still be made but they may take a little time to edit and process nowadays and blogs and video journals are now more immediate media although they do not usually provide a lasting archive. We intend to be around a long time.
As the anniversary approaches it has been decided to re-jig the site as new technologies emerge. In the meantime, we offer an unusual review. A review of the current economic situation:
