TWO YEAR OLDS DAY

Reviewed by ANDRE BEAUMONT

The racing at the end of October in Newmarket are the lazy days. The summer warmth is nearly gone but you can still get the sun. One forecast was predicting fog a day out but equine instinct could have told you better on the gallops and the going was good. These days are filled with Newmarket faces and also those who like their flat racing throughout the season, continuing minus the most excitable companions.

Amongst the runners appearing on Two Year Olds Day will usually be something that will be promising at three years old and the fixture provides the opportunity to run them locally near where they may well have been trained and on turf with which they are familiar.

To remember these horses running the following year you either have to know your stuff - the subject matter of more technical reviews than this - or see them all.

The relatively light crowds do mean you can just about get round to photograph all the winners but as you have no advance knowledge of who they may be, it is no easy task. You need to photograph all the horses and then find out what you have but this might just give you a chance to remember them the following year.

Going past the winning post

I thought this the best win of the afternoon and sometimes you do not have to wait till the following year to see the horse again.
